Things to remember when teaching six-year-olds...

--They have a 2-3 minute attention span.
--They know their stuff, but would rather make 18 trips to the bathroom or go climb a tree (they told me as much). ;)
--They LOVE to talk about themselves.
--Boys & girls cannot yet sit next to each other. (Ewwww!)
--They want to answer the questions I have, but it then leads to another story besides something Gospel-oriented. ("Sister Harrison? This one time, I went to the beach...")
--Reverence may very well be an issue for this class, but I hate to try to restrict them to sitting still & quiet all the time. I'll have to come up with some creative stuff to do...
--If they're bored, I must NOT take it personally. (I must remember that half the time, I'm bored in church too, and I'm an adult.)
--They're pretty sweet-natured & want to please. (I need to remember this when one of the kids tells me my lesson is horrible or something one Sunday.)
--Preparation is good. I need more tricks up my sleeve. (If they were teenagers, I'd just let them chat or something. But some of these kids are WAY more active & need stuff to do.)

Overall, a good start. I'm exhausted.  :)

One game I played with my little sunday school kids when I taught was, on a discussion that God was always with us, no matter what, even if we couldn't see him...

They played the game of "Is he in the bathtub with me? Does he know when the monsters are under my bed?" and so on and so on... Just an idea...

get or make a bean bag. That was my lifesaver when I taught sunbeams for 3 years. I used it in so many ways, and they loved it. Like, everyone sit in the cirlce and you throw the bean bag to someone and they have to tell you something they are grateful for or answer a question from the lesson or so on. Then you can either have them throw it back to you and you toss it on so you stay in control, or have them pass it to another classmate. Or just use it to play hot potato to kill time. We also did a lot of coloring and singing songs like Jesus wants me for a Sunbeam, Once there was a snowman, Popcorn popping, Do as I'm doing, and so on.

Good luck! I know your awesome at it. :)
